Laser Hair Removal
How does the laser work for hair removal?
The laser
light targets pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft. The melanin absorbs
the laser light and generates heat which damages or destroys hair
follicles.
What percentage of hair will be reduced permanently?
Typically
60-99% of the hair can be reduced permanently. Hormonal, stress, and
environmental factors may influence new hair growth in the future.
What are the advantages of the Light Sheer Laser?
LightSheer
is an FDA approved laser considered to be the industry standard for
hair removal. Treatments with the LightSheer are rapid, effective, and
safe due in part to its patented chill tip that helps protect skin
tissue.
Can white, or gray hair be removed?
Light colored hairs
can be successfully removed but must first be treated with a clinical
product that will dye the root of the hair follicle. Normal hair dyes
cannot color the root of the hair.
Why do results vary from one person to the next?
Skin
pigment, hair pigment, and hair texture are all important factors in
treatment efficacy. These factors vary between individuals.
How often should I be treated?
Most areas should be
treated every 4-8 weeks. Eshaan medical staff can assist in determining a
treatment schedule based on the hair growth cycle of the specific area.
Treatment efficacy is best when a regular schedule is maintained.
Why does a treatment schedule and multiple treatments matter?
There
are three phases of hair growth; two resting and one growth phase. Only
hair in the growth phase is effectively targeted by a laser system.
Hair that is in the resting phase will not be affected. At any one time
only 50 to 75% of your hair is in the growing phase. This explains the
need for multiple treatments.
Why does sun exposure (UVA and UVB light) matter?
Melanin
in the surrounding skin can also absorb laser energy. There is a
balance between burning the hair follicle vs. the skin. People with a
lot of expressed melanin (tanned or naturally dark) will absorb more
laser light into the skin and typically require adjusted laser energies
to avoid damage to the skin.
Why is it important to continuously update my medication and medical information?
Certain
medications may cause photo (light) allergic, photo-toxic, or
photo-sensitive reactions. For example, the use of Accutane in the
twelve months prior to the hair laser procedure is a contraindication.
Retin-A, glycolic acid, and Renova need to be stopped 5 days prior to
treatment. Be sure to update your medication history regularly.
Are laser hair treatments painful?
At Eshaan, a topical
anesthetic cream is applied to the skin prior to treatment to make the
procedure very tolerable. On a scale of one to ten, most clients rate
the pain a 3 - 4., with a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping.
How soon will the hair fall out?
Some hairs will extrude immediately. Others will continue to shed for up to 3 weeks. The average is 7 to 10 days.
